GLASS CABIN | Iowa | 2018
The GLASS CABIN provides an off-grid family retreat, designed and built by the architect. Reused glass, reclaimed prairie and land entrusted to the grandchildren of a sesquicentennial farm was the genesis of the design, located in northeastern Iowa. Nestled in a clearing of the woods near the Wapsipinicon River, the structure is raised on columns above the flood plain providing great views of the native Midwestern prairie. Designed for occasional use, the extension of the front columns creates a manmade edge to the clearing and allows sliding barn doors to close up when not in use. Western Red Cedar is used for the exposed structure, decking and siding.
